Dry tortugas fishing trips
With Dream Catcher Charters
Fish with Capt. Steven Lamp and Capt. Mike Behney in the fertile fishing grounds of the Dry Tortugas on board the "Intense" a high speed 32 ft Yellowfin Center Console.
It takes a special permit to visit this National Park and We have one. See the Fort Jefferson National monument, snorkel pristine coral reefs or just go hard core and fish the numerous wrecks and reefs that produce the best fishing to be found anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere.
This is a 10 hour day trip set up anyway you like with fishing, snorkeling and sight seeing as your components. Spend as much time doing some or all of it as you like. this trip is very flexible and the only one of its kind. The Dry Tortugas are roughly 70 miles from Key West and civilization. Please do not book this trip if this potentially bothers you.
We will depart the dock at 7:30 am and head out to our bait traps to attain some live baits for the days sport. from there we make our way toward the Marquesas Keys with the sun at our backs rising from the east. As we pass by the Marquesas you will learn all that we know about the magical fishing to be found there and view its beauty from the distance.
Moving further West of the Marquesas we make our way by many ship wrecks that are visible from the boat. Loaded with permit, cobia, large barracudas and goliath groupers there is an option here of taking a closer look and starting your sport fishing day, although not recommended as there is plenty to do in the Dry Tortugas.
Moving on we head over Rebecca Channel a large rather unruly body of water separating the shallows of the quick sands and the Dry Tortugas. Set a coarse on the Fort Jefferson until she comes in sight rising out of the calm Gulf of Mexico waters as we get closer.
Once we make it to the Dry Tortugas boundary markers we stop to make a plan based on the conditions and what our people would like to do. Snorkel the reefs, Fish some wrecks, Fish the reef, Sight see the Fort Jefferson whatever you would like to do. It's all good to us we just want you to have fun.
Around 3 Pm we start to think about heading back. wrapping up our days adventures and setting a coarse for Key West. Always with a good bit of fish on board that will make great table fare and stories and photos to share with everyone of the ones we caught, had fun with and let go.
Upon returning to the dock at Sunset Marina we will cut your fish for your dinner and bid you farewell till next time.
We supply lots of bottled waters, All fishing gear, snorkeling gear and licenses.
We recommend you bring a camera, video camera, underwater camera, sunscreen, hats, towels, food for your day, towels and whatever you want to drink other than water.
Suited best for 4 persons we can take up to 6.
Departures are daily when scheduled and are weather dependent and captains discretion only. We reserve the right to not go for any reason offering a different trip or refunding your deposit.
Recreational bag limits on the fishing will be strictly enforced. this trip is a sport fishing trip, catch and release will be practiced often.
Is incredible. everything is bigger. We can cast plugs in the shallows over the reefs for snappers and groupers. We can fish many of the ship wrecks, reefs or the north tower with live bait for permit to 40 lbs, cobia and groupers, huge amberjacks, monster kingfish up to 65 lbs. Fish the deeper reefs for huge grouper, red snappers, yellowtail snapper and other assorted great tasting bottom fare.
The Fort Jefferson is a civil war fort that was never used except as a prison back in the day. Get off the boat and discover this unique National Treasure. We can guide you or you can guide yourself. Garden Key Light house is also a great thing to see.
Wildlife there is non stop. The bird watching is incredible with many species of terns, pelicans, boobies, and others. the birds are everywhere and easy to view as they are very friendly. Turtles which is the name sake of the Dry tortugas can be seen all through your journey there and back as well as bottle nosed dolphins, huge stingrays and sharks. Visually there is never a dull moment in the Dry Tortugas.
A great way to cool off and see some of the prettiest untouched living coral reefs in the Northern Hemisphere. We can snorkel reefs or a wreck, your choice. All gear is provided.
